Prior to this October’s Apple keynote there were a whole host of rumours regarding the iPhone 5 and what it had in store. In turns out that most of these were wrong. Even so, the unexpected iPhone 4S has still landed with most of the hardware specs that were expected for the iPhone 5.

So what are the things the device was said to come with come with and didn’t?

1GB RAM

It wouldn’t have been the most outrageous scenario to ask Apple to place a whole rounded 1GB of RAM in the device. However, we have to make do with 512MB. This is fine, though it does limit the device in a number of areas and causes it to be behind many of the other devices in the current market, which come with the larger amount of memory.

Display

The phone was also rumoured with having a larger display than the previous one. However, as we are all well aware the phone’s screen is a 3.5inch one, the exact same as the one previously featured on the iPhone 4.  This screen is one of the best still on the market and though a little bit smaller than expected it allows the iPhone to remain compact and easily portable, unlike many of the larger devices out there.

Body

We also would have expected a slimmer body. The body on the iPhone 4S is the exact same size as the previous one and though we did think we would get an aluminium back in a tear drop shape, or a phone that is slimmer than the Samsung Galaxy – slim at 8.49mm – we didn’t. However, with a doubling in power and all the other goodness inside the iPhone 4S, such a thing should not bring to many worries.

Camera

There were also rumours of the Apple iPhone 5 coming with a new camera – possibly the greatest in the field. This would have meant the camera had a 12mp camera at the very least with 1080p video. This would have also meant a top quality lens among other things. The phone doesn’t obviously, though is in no way badly catered for. The phone comes with an 8mp camera, with a good lens and a 1080p video taking capability.

As you can see the iPhone does lack in some ways, however it has met target at the very least in most manners with a mixture of both its new software and new hardware
